Alabama Association of Nonprofits hosts Professional Development Training at CFSA

Mark your calendars for February 17! The Alabama Association of Nonprofits, in partnership with The Community Foundation of South Alabama, will host a professional development training. You’ll hear from trained Masters level Social Worker and nonprofit veteran, Rosie Strafford Smith, who has over 13 years of experience in the field, most recently as Vice President at the world’s largest United Way, based in St. Louis. There she developed a line of advisory services for corporate and individual donors, called Customized Philanthropy, reimagining partnerships by creating shared value among donors, organizations, and the community and generating $2 million in annual unrestricted earned revenue.

Rosie honed her expertise in program evaluation and passion for outcomes through her role as a program evaluator of a community health program in Tamil Nadu, India, and teaching graduate coursework on the subject at Washington University in St. Louis’s Brown School of Social Work and Public Health.

In her consulting practice, founded in 2020, Rosie applies her expertise in launching innovative, mission-driven initiatives to help busy social impact leaders turn their big ideas into feasible, funded strategies. YOUR HOMEWORK: What’s a question you would like to answer about your program?

In this practice-based session, you will create a low- or no-cost evaluation plan to answer one question about your programs, clients, board, or staff. You pick the question, we provide the framework and peer support to refine and strengthen your process to answer it.

During this training, we will:
1. Briefly discuss what evaluation is, why it matters, and what it can help you achieve
2. Select a specific question your evaluation seeks to answer
3. Determine what information or data you need to answer it
4. Identify stakeholders involved throughout the process
5. Learn tools you can use to collect and analyze your data (qualitative or quantitative)
6. Discuss with whom and how you will share this data
7. Build an action plan and timeline to achieve your results

You will leave with an individualized plan and timeline to answer your evaluation question as well as a library of tools and resources to use throughout the process, including:
· Bank of evaluation questions
· Template for evaluation project planning
· Data collection tools
· Data analysis tools
· Data visualization tools
