Grantee Highlight: Mobile Arts Council

The Mobile Arts Council was awarded $10,000 last summer from the Community Foundation of South Alabama’s (CFSA) 2021 Closing the Opportunity Gap Initiative. Grant funds were used to support the Charting New Directions program, a community-based education program that uses artistic processes to help at-risk youth think through real work applications, life skills, and concepts that seek to prepare them for a positive and productive future.

Funding from the Closing the Opportunity Gap grant cycle allowed the Mobile Arts Council to host seven weeks of arts education classes with the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama (BGCSA). Participating youth were introduced to African Drumming, Hip Hop, Jazz, Ballet, Theatre, Puppetry, Sculpture, Ceramics, and Visual Arts. The program reached almost 2,500 children at the BGCSA club locations.

CFSA is proud to support programs that strengthen underprivileged families and children. We believe that children and families in our communities deserve every opportunity to reach their full potential. Our goal is to ensure that all kids in Southwest Alabama have the opportunity to thrive, from cradle to career.
