Grantee Highlight: The Women's Resource Center, 2021 Closing the Opportunity Gap

The Women’s Resource Center (WRC) was awarded $6,500 last summer from the Community Foundation of South Alabama’s (CFSA) 2021 Closing the Opportunity Gap Initiative. Grant funds were used to support the WRC’s “Empowered Parent Education” program. These parent education courses provide practical training on infant/childcare safety, life management skills, and financial literacy to families throughout Clarke, Mobile and Washington Counties.

Funding from the Closing the Opportunity Gap grant cycle has allowed WRC to increase their outreach and the class size of the “Empowered Parent Education” courses. WRC is dedicated to women and families in this community. They regularly engage with the medical community to remain effective for clients, and they’ve also enhanced their focus to low-income areas and people directly affected by poverty and lack of education.

CFSA is proud to support programs that strengthen underprivileged families and children. We believe that children and families in our communities deserve every opportunity to reach their full potential. Our goal is to ensure that all kids in Southwest Alabama have the opportunity to thrive, from cradle to career.
