MOBILE, AL – The Community Foundation of South Alabama (CFSA) is pleased to announce it has awarded $355,000 to 12 nonprofit organizations in Mobile County. These funds will support programs that provide resources and basic needs to those in this community effected by COVID-19.

When Governor Kay Ivey announced an official state of emergency last month, leaders in the Mobile community anticipated that COVID-19 would have a serious economic and social impact on the region. The CFSA, in coordination with the City of Mobile, acted quickly and announced the activation of the Mobile Area Disaster Relief Fund in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Mobile Area Disaster Relief Fund grantees include: Feeding The Gulf Coast, Catholic Social Services, Central Presbyterian Church Food Pantry, Victory Health Partners, The Salvation Army, Dumas Wesley, Volunteers of America, Housing First, Inc., McKemie Place, Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy, Mobile County Public School System, and Family Promise of Coastal Alabama.

The Mobile Area Disaster Relief Fund has benefited greatly from generous individual donors as well as businesses large and small.  They include the Helen A. Young Charitable Fund, a charitable fund at CFSA, Main Street Mobile, Threaded Fasteners, and Mobile Energy.  In addition, the Alabama Power Foundation and Regions Bank have made donations.

“The Foundation is committed to aiding the Mobile community during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Community Foundation of South Alabama President & CEO Rebecca Byrne. “We are extremely thankful to the businesses and individuals who donated to this fund, and we’re confident that the awarded organizations will do their part to provide critical needs to those in our community who’ve been effected by COVID-19.”

Members of the community who wish to support aid to those affected by COVID-19 may donate to the Mobile Area Disaster Relief Fund by utilizing the Foundation’s website.
